AstroAI is recalling about 249,100 minifridges because the electrical switch can short circuit, posing fire and burn risks.
At least 70 reports of the minifridges smoking, burning, melting, or catching fire have been received by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Two fires resulted in extensive property damages, totaling more than $360,000.
The model number “LY0204A” for the recalled 4-liter/6-can minifridges can be found on a label on the back of the minifridge along with the serial number. The nine-digit serial number starts with “S/N” and is followed by the numbers 19, 20, 21, 2201, 2202, or 2203.
The minifridges were sold in a variety of colors, including black, white, blue, and pink, at Amazon.com and Astroai.com from June 2019 through June 2022. The cost was about $40.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled minifridges and contact AstroAI for a free replacement, the company and CPSC advise. Consumers need to send a photo of the recalled minifridge, showing the model number and serial number with “Recalled” written on it in permanent marker, to AstroAI. Send the photo by email to recall@astroai.com or through the online portal at https://www.astroai.com/product-recall.
Consumers should dispose of the minifridges according to state and local waste disposal procedures.
