How to sell items on Craigslist

For the first time, I’m selling items on Craigslist.

Futon Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  • Read ads from others so you can get the gist of how to do them.

  • Set up an account. It was easy to do.

  • Pick out the items you want to sell.

  • Determine the price.

  • Post the ad. Use bright descriptive terms and describe your items honestly. It saves everyone time. Check your spelling.

  • Be sure to include a photo. Make the images smaller through resizing to reduce the amount of time it takes to upload them.

  • Check your e-mails frequently and reply promptly.

  • Start early. It may take a couple of weeks to get many responses.

  • Heed the warnings from Craigslist about scammers: (1) deal locally with folks you can meet in person, (2) never wire funds via Western Union, Moneygram, or any other wire service – anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer, (3) fake cashier checks and money orders are common, and banks will cash them and then hold you responsible when the fake is discovered weeks later, (4) never give out financial information – bank account number, social security, number, or eBay/PayPal info, and (5) avoid deals involving shipping or escrow services and know that only a scammer will "guarantee" your transaction.

Do you have any other tips? Let me know. I have a lot of things to sell quickly.
