Last year, I enjoyed reading about AARP’s selections for its Eighth-Annual Movies for Grownups Awards.
Since the Hollywood offerings for 2009 were so mediocre, I thought I’d write about the Ninth-Annual Movies for Grownups Awards. The winners are:
- Readers’ Choice – “The Blind Side”
- Best Movie for Grownups – “Invictus”
- Best Actress 50-Plus – Helen Mirren, “The Last Station”
- Best Actor 50-Plus – Jeff Bridges, “Crazy Heart”
- Best Supporting Actress 50-Plus – Kim Basinger, “The Burning Plain”
- Best Supporting Actor 50-Plus – Alec Baldwin, “It’s Complicated”
- Best Director 50-Plus – Kathryn Bigelow, “The Hurt Locker”
- Best Comedy – “It’s Complicated”
- Best Grownup Love Story – Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci, “Julie and Julia”
- Best Documentary – Aron Gaudet, writer and director, “The Way We Get By”
- Breakthrough Accomplishment – LeVar Burton, director, “Reach for Me”
- Best Buddy Movie – Joe Wright, director, “The Soloist”
- Best Intergenerational Movie – Kirk Jones, director, “Everybody’s Fine”
- Best Movie for Grownups Who Refuse to Grow Up – J.J. Abrams, director, “Star Trek”
- Best Screenwriter 50-Plus – Nancy Meyers, “It’s Complicated”
- Best Foreign Film – Jordan, director, “Captain Abu Raed”
- Judges’ Award for Extraordinary Merit – John Lasseter, chief creative officer, Pixar and Disney Animation Studios, “Up”
Five of these films won Academy Awards: “The Blind Side,” Best Actress; “Crazy Heart,” Best Actor and Original Song; “Up,” Animated Feature Film and Original Score; “Star Trek,” Makeup; and “The Hurt Locker,” Best Movie, Directing, Original Screenplay, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Film Editing.
One movie I really enjoyed was the documentary “Food Inc.” My next post will be “Food Inc., the Movie, Offers Shocking Information on the American Food System.”
