What to buy and not buy in January 2024

Home-fitness-equipment-1840858_640Although many people are tired of shopping after the holidays and the bank account may be low, sales in January are worth taking a look at.

Here are some suggestions from DealNews.com:

Holiday leftovers

Holiday chocolates, decorations, holiday decor, and clothing are possibilities for savings.

Small kitchen appliances

Expect to see savings on a variety of small appliances including food steamers, blenders, and waffle makers.

Fitness equipment

Since people are making resolutions about getting in shape, January is a great time to shop for fitness gear of all kinds. Look for deals on resistance bands, body balance ball kits, dumbbell bar pairs, weight sets, and recovery balls.

Gym memberships

Look for specials on gym memberships in January such as discounted rates, waived sign-up fees, and bonus perks including free access to other areas of the gym. However, watch out for any “perks that aren’t available yet.

Beauty items

Since resolutions, too, often focus on self-care, retailers will be discounting a variety of beauty and personal care items to entice shoppers. In addition, gift sets that didn’t sell during the holidays may be discounted.

TVs

Deals and the variety won’t be as good as for Black Friday sales, but it’s worth comparing prices for if you’re in the market for a new TV.

Soft home goods

January is when white sales pop up at many retailers, including department stores such as Macy's and Kohl’s.

Valentine’s Day flowers

If you want to buy traditional Valentine's Day gifts such as flowers, January is the time to start looking for deals.

Winter clothing

In January, you’ll find plenty of discounts on cold-weather apparel. Look for deals on coats, sweater jackets, jackets, and sweaters for all members of the family.

Laptops

Black Friday and Back to School season are typically the best times to shop for new laptops. January may also provide some great deals, however.

Six things not to buy in January

You’ll find better deals for mattresses, major appliances, and jewelry in February.

In March, compare prices for snow gear and luggage.

For spring clothing, you’ll find lower prices in April or May.

That’s the advice for January. I hope you can find some good deals. I'm shopping for a new winter coat. I'll let you know how I do.
