While the holidays are a joyous time to celebrate with family and friends, the season also poses a number of difficulties to watch out for.
About 23 million Americans have had packages stolen from their homes before they could open them, according to survey conducted for insuranceQuotes.com. Thieves are taking advantage of online shopping’s growing popularity and stealing deliveries from front porches and mailboxes before the packages reach their owners.
Another hazard – 7 million Americans have had a guest injured in their home, the survey shows.
Then there are fires. Sixteen million Americans have experienced a house fire due to a fryer or cooking, and 2 million have had fires caused by Christmas trees and other decorations.
Having the whole family or large groups visiting can also cause problems; 47 million Americans have experienced a sewer backup.
Winter weather and holiday celebrations also increase risks on the road. Fifty-two million Americans have gotten into a car accident because of snow, ice, or rain. Thirty million have had an accident due to of heavy traffic, 21 million because they were speeding and 5 million because they drank alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
So, Happy Holidays to you all, but watch out for seasonal hazards that could put a damper on your celebrations.
