Warning: Brightly colored photo on coffee cups may be plastic wrapper that melts

When I was at SeaTac Airport on my way to Madrid for a holiday vacation, I saw an unusual brightly colored coffee cup with a night scene of Seattle. I bought it as a gift for my daughter.

When she took a look at it, she saw that it said on the bottom not to put it in the dishwasher. We discussed it and decided the warning was probably about fading.

Here’s what the coffee cup looked like after the first time it was washed in the dishwasher:

Here’s the coffee cup after the second washing:

What’s shocking is that the picture on the cup isn’t infused into the cup. It’s a piece of plastic wrapped around the cup. The handle also has a strip of plastic on it.

I emailed Hudson News and suggested they no longer sell the coffee cups.

In an email response from the Hudson Group’s customer service, I was promised an $8.75 refund check in the mail.

So, be careful. Although the cups are eye catching, they aren’t durable.
