Tips for scoring big Black Friday deals

Black-friday-Guy at Computer With Black Friday on ScreenBlack Friday sales are already starting, so what you need to do is start watching the ads and continue to compare prices.

While 2021 might be a more “normal” year than 2020, Black Friday 2021 will be more like last year than previous years. There will be lots of savings and some great offers, but you’ll need to be on your toes to get the deals.

DealNews.com predicts savings on these items:

Phones

There will be some iPhone 13 deals around Black Friday, but consumers need to be ready to jump through hoops and be willing to commit.

In addition, start checking out prices for iPhones 12s. The iPhone 12 now starts at $599 for the mini model, compared to its original $699 starting price. Discounts for the older iPhones could go up to 50 percent off, although it’s more likely to see discounts of around $200-$350 off.

For the Galaxy S21, Samsung’s latest smartphone, deals are possible. However, the best Black Friday deals will still likely involve trading in another device with high demand.

On foldable phones, which are gaining in popularity, you could see deals of about $1,000. However, you’ll need to decide if spending that much for a new phone, one that might not have the same track record as a Samsung Galaxy or Apple phone that costs around the same price, is a good idea.

Apple products

If you shop around Black Friday at third-party retailers, you can find great savings.

Apple doesn’t have a traditional Black Friday sale. It has a four-day event that runs from Black Friday through Cyber Monday, where shoppers receive a gift card with select purchases. The amount of the cards varies, some years as high as $200, while in 2020 the largest card was worth $150.

For Apple MacBooks and MacBook Airs, check with third-party sellers who may offer $250 off.

Travel

Look for serious travel deals return this year, including flights for as little as $14 and winter cruises for only $99 per person.

TVs

Smaller sets will again go for $80 or less, and consumers can count on midsize TVs costing as little as $150. In addition, you should be able to find a huge TV – 70” or more – for $1,000.

Gaming and toys

Game deals should be plentiful, but expect to pay full price for new consoles. You may even have trouble finding a unit to purchase.

For toys, you could find deals up to 40 percent off, but supply chain issues seem particularly bad for the toy industry this year.

Laptops

MacBooks should see discounts outside of Apple, and Chromebooks will drop to $129, if not lower.

Clothing

Suits will start at $100 or less, shirts will fall to $4, and winter accessories, such as gloves, will be as little as $1.

Best wishes with your Black Friday shopping. Be sure to keep comparing prices so you’ll know you’re getting a deal.

  1. The main thing to do is to keep comparing prices when you’re Black Friday shopping. Have a price in mind so you don’t pay too much. And, as I wrote in my newsletter, check other websites besides Amazon.
