Throw away your chipped dishes

  IMG_2606

Recently, my favorite mug for drinking tea got broken. It was sitting on the counter and came crashing to the kitchen floor when something fell out of the cupboard and hit it.

When I was in college, several students taking bacteriology told me cracked dishes are a breeding ground for bacteria that can contaminate food and make you sick.

I also had a friend, Sheila Gunther, who always asked for new dishes at a restaurant if any were chipped.

So, throw away any chipped dishes. You could get a foodborne illness, which often causes gastrointestinal problems – cramping, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting – that aren’t pleasant for healthy adults and dangerous for kids, older adults, and pregnant women.
