Sugar warning: Watch out for Halloween Candy

CandySince diabetes runs in my family, I'm careful about eating sugar. I might eat a cookie or two a week, but never candy.

However, Halloween makes avoiding sugar worse. I buy individual boxes of raisins to give to trick or treaters, even though my daughter calls it a lame treat for kids. That way, I won't be tempted when I have left over candy.

With Halloween still two weeks away, problems already are starting. I went to physical therapy. There on the counter was candy, chocolate candy, in a dish. I took several pieces. Then, I went to the credit union. They normally only have hard candy, which is easy to resist. However, this time they had chocolate, too. I took several.

By the time I got home, I'd eaten all of the chocolate. Sigh.

So beware. It looks like candy will be everywhere until we get through Halloween.

See my article on what to do with Halloween candy for tips on how to get rid of it before you eat it.

  1. Hi DDD,
I’m not diabetic, so I don’t have a way to check my blood sugar. I didn’t have the symptoms of high blood sugar, though:
    Increased thirst.
    Frequent urination.
    Fatigue.
    Nausea and vomiting.
    Shortness of breath.
    Stomach pain.
    Fruity breath odor.
    A very dry mouth.
    Rita
