In a widely condemned press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki following the recent Russian-United States summit, President Donald Trump sided with Russia over U.S. intelligence agencies when asked whether he would condemn Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election. Trump said Putin had strongly denied it. “I don't see any reason why it would be [Russia],” Trump said.
Trumps comments were criticized by both Democrats and most Republicans. His staff was stunned because the president was briefed on Russian interference in the 2016 election, and he was supposed to challenge Putin strongly with the information.
After the uproar, Trump issued a retraction the next day saying that he had mistakenly used the word "would" when he had meant to say "wouldn't.”
Many lawmakers, commentators, and citizens groups called Trump’s press conference remarks treason.
Does this unprecedented debacle mean the beginning of the end for Trump?
On July Fourth, I wrote about my concerns for our great country and how Trump and his cronies are harming the consumers and the environment daily. I wrote: “For some reason, I think it’s going to be over soon and our great nation will rise again.”
I hope either this gigantic storm over Trump’s stupidity at the summit press conference or the results of the Mueller investigation will result in Trump leaving office soon.
Trump’s collusion and corruption have been evident even before he took office. This country must develop some way to get rid of corrupt leaders more swiftly. The damage Trump and his cronies are doing to the United States is horrific.
