The sure way to burn microwave popcorn is to follow the directions on the package.
On Thursday, I got out a package of popcorn. When I was at the co-op recently, I bought it from the sale rack. I got out my air popcorn popper and opened the package. It wasn't regular popcorn. It was microwave popcorn, which I never buy because of the chemicals in the packaging.
So, I thought I might as well pop it. I read the directions and followed them; 4 minutes, stop when it slows down to one or two pops a second.
It was a total, total disaster. Steam billowed out of the package, then smoke billowed out. It was terrible. My home was filled with smoke. It still smells bad on Saturday.
So, I thought I'd try again; 2 1/2 minutes. It worked like a charm. I ate the entire package and there were only a few kernels that didn't pop, as you can see from the photo.
So, if you want to burn microwave popcorn, and burn it badly, just follow the directions on the package. I remember it well from my days in the workplace.
