It’s August. Gardens are coming into full production.
I went on a two-week vacation the end of July and beginning of August, but thankfully, my friend Erin watered the garden for me.
Since my daughter Lisa and her family came to visit from Madrid, I spent a lot of time getting ready including pruning my 40 rhododendrons. My daughter Mona came from Sacramento, too, so we had a big party – celebrating birthdays for Mona, me, and America. We also celebrated the college graduations for my grandkids Rafa and Cecilia plus the graduation of their friend Victor.
So, I didn’t have much time to prepare the greens in my garden. Now, I can get to it.
I’ve got bok choy and kale. I need to look up some bok choy recipes because I haven’t grown that before.

The cherry tomatoes are tasty. I don’t grow big ones anymore. Too many years with boxes of green tomatoes carefully packed in tissue paper.

I grow the cherry tomatoes in pots along with green peppers, eggplant, zucchini, and corn. I also grow herbs.

The zucchini plant I picked out turned out to be yellow. Unlike many people, I only get a few zucchini every year. Once I came back from vacation and my yard work helper had stacked up a pile of zucchinis. That’s the only time I’ve had a lot.

The cucumbers are coming on well. I went to a lunch Friday and took two to give away. I should have taken more.

The green beans are the best. I used to prepare them with bacon. I’m a vegan now to improve my heart health. I think I’ll try adding some teriyaki tofu near the end of cooking.

Last night, I cooked my first set of green beans. I love them.
I had a big crop of raspberries, as usual. I broke my record of 22 pints with 24 pints this year.
I also had strawberries and blueberries, which got eaten off the plants and bushes and were greatly appreciated.
I love the fresh, organic vegetables from my garden and hope I’ll be able to plant a garden again next year.
