I’m the host for this week’s Best of Boomer Blogs #314.
As summer begins and we enjoy the super moon, baby boomers
are writing about a wide variety of topics that impact the lives of boomers.
Tom Sightings of Sightings Over Sixty writes about an issue I’ve
been concerned about for years. Tom saw something on Facebook that turns up the
heat on microwave ovens, and it all seemed quite alarming. So in his post “Is Your Microwave Safe?” he analyzes the issue
and cooks up an experiment to find out the facts, once and for all.
Laura Lee Carter over at the Midlife Crisis Queen has found she always gets much interest when she
writes about feeling like a loser. But she also tries to offer solutions, such as how to find more happiness in
your life.
A growing number of movies are being set in nursing homes, assisted
living centers, and retirement communities. On her blog, The Generation Above Me,
Karen Austin lists 14 of these films with clips. Some are comedies, some are
dramas but they all provide more insight about communal living for older
adults.
John Agno of So Baby Boomer tells us that for baby boomers, work was about the stable
paycheck and vertical climb up the corporate ladder. Generations X and Y are redefining the workforce attitude,
and instead want to do and achieve what personally matters to them in an
environment where respect and entrepreneurial behavior are encouraged.
On my blog, I write about recent press coverage that
indicated you don’t have to worry about your salt intake. The president of the Institute of Medicine said that “some press
coverage misstated” the conclusions of the organization’s recent report
on sodium intake and health outcomes. Consumers do need to continue to reduce
their salt consumption, an effort the institute, American Heart Association,
National Institutes of Health, and World Health Organization support. Reducing
salt consumption reduces the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke,
and other life-threatening health problems.
Be sure to check back next week to see what baby boomer
bloggers are thinking and writing about.
