Have you ever found a good book at a Little Library?

IMG_3941In my neighborhood, we have two little libraries. A nice addition, I thought. However, I’m not finding books that are great to read. Most of the books are murder mysteries, and since I’ve stopped watching programs on television about murder, I’m not going to read murder mysteries either.

One of the libraries is on the way to a park I walk to frequently. Another is on a main road near my home.

I have a small stack of books from the little libraries I haven’t started or finished. Some topics include a poor woman who works hard to raise her siblings and after she’s married, but her life doesn’t improve; a 79-year-old-woman in England who needs to figure out what to do when her money runs out; a woman who encounters her former lover; and a medical student who catches a bouquet at a Christmas wedding.

On Friday, on my walk to the park, I took a detour to the other Little Library. I didn’t see anything worthwhile, but it had a copy of “Lovely Bones.” My niece sent me a copy of it for a Christmas gift years ago. It’s about a teenage girl who, after being raped and murdered, watches from heaven as her family and friends struggle to move on with their lives while she comes to terms with her own death. I didn’t find it to be an uplifting book.

At the other Little Library, I found “Long Lost” by Harlan Coben. The description said it’s about a woman who calls her old boyfriend and tells him to come to Paris immediately because she needs his help. When he gets there, he finds out the woman’s daughter, who she thought had died in an auto accident, is actually alive and she needs help finding her.

I brought the book home, but, unfortunately, after skimming through the book, it’s actually a murder mystery. And, in solving the mystery, a lot, lot more people die. Oh, boy.

I guess it’s time to go back to the library. Darn.

Update: I've also tried finding books at the Free Store that operates on some days by our local co-op. No luck there either for a good free book.
