Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving-dinner-7600226_1280The raspberry pie is in the oven, an experiment that’s ongoing on how to make vegan pie crust. I’ll be joining friends in a couple of hours for a largely vegetarian dinner. A friend, I was just told, is bringing a ham.

I’ve been busy this week spending time getting followers on BlueSky, the new website appealing to former Twitter, now called X, users who are disgruntled, so I haven’t posted my usual articles on Thanksgiving safety.

Top food safety tips are thaw the turkey in the refrigerator or in cold water, cook the turkey to an internal temperature of at least 165 F, and refrigerate leftovers after two hours at room temperature.

To prevent fires, stay in the kitchen when food is cooking on the stovetop, keep children away from the stove and knives, and make sure your smoke alarms are working.

Eighty-seven percent Americans are celebrating Thanksgiving this year, according to WalletHub, a personal finance website, and the cost of a turkey dinner for 10 estimated to be $61.17.

WalletHub says 20 percent of Americans will be taking part in a Friendsgiving gathering, like me.

So, best wishes on Thanksgiving Day. Our fabulous country faces tremendous challenges these days. We’ve survived them before and we can survive them again.
