Did you see the big moon last night?

When I arrived home after doing errands last night about 8 p.m., I looked for the "perigee moon," the biggest in almost 20 years. Because it was cloudy, I couldn’t see it.

Moon Super Full moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the moon's orbit. It’s an ellipse with one side – perigee – about 50,000 km closer to earth than the other – apogee, according to NASA’s Science News. Perigee moons are about 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the moon's orbit.

Before I went to bed at midnight, I went out to take another look. There it was. I dashed for my camera.

See The Huffington Post’s “'Supermoon' Visible This Weekend” for great photos of the big moon.

I plan to brush up on my night photography skills and see if I can get some good photos of the perigee moon tonight. It would be fun to get a nice photo of the supermoon with the Capitol building.
