I watched Diane Sawyer’s Interview with Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, with sympathy for her finally being able to transition after many decades of unhappiness.
However, as the interview progressed, I noticed Jenner would drop into a haughty-Kardashian, “look-at-me,” style of communication.
Then Sawyer asked Jenner if she cheered President Obama when he was the first president to use the word transgender in his 2015 State of the Union address.
Jenner replied:
I will certainly give him credit for that. But not to get political, I've just never been a big fan. I'm kind of more on the conservative side.
Sawyer asked if she is a Republican.
"Yeah," Jenner said. "Is that a bad thing? I believe in the Constitution."
President Obama was more gracious to Jenner when her Vanity Fair cover was unveiled Monday.
Obama said in a tweet: “It takes courage to share your story.”
In The Washington Post article, “Trans People Need an Icon: But Bruce Jenner Is the Worst Possible Choice,” Zoey Tur said just as the transgender experience is beginning to be normalized in American culture, it will be swept up with the ultimate symbol of abnormality and dysfunction: the Kardashian family.
I agree.
Tur calls on Jenner to be a champion and put the interests of the transgender community above the interests of the Kardashian brand.
