Once again a hurricane has overwhelmed a region of America. We’re all watching the devastation in news reports and helping Houstonians get back on their feet with donations.
Last week, I wrote an article on my blog warning consumers to make sure the charities they’re donating to are legitimate. Some of the key cautions include verifying the trustworthiness of a relief organization, seeing if the charity has an on-the-ground presence in the impacted areas, and being cautious about gifts of clothing, food, or other in-kind donations. See “Watch Out: Scammers Jumping in to Make Money From Hurricane Harvey” for other key cautions and a list of organizations the Better Business Bureau says meets its 20 standards for giving.
Over at Heart·Mind·Soul, Carol Cassara is using her business to benefit people and pets affected by Hurricane Harvey. Maybe you’d like to help? It’s actually a double whammy of helping, as her products help those who are healing and others who are grieving. Take a look at “Harvey Relief” for details.
Fellow blogger Tom Sightings of Sightings Over Sixty is enjoying an end-of-summer trip to the Jersey Shore. So, grab a drink, slather on the suntan lotion, and head off to enjoy the sun and surf at “One Great Thing About Retirement.”
