Today, I’ll be going to a barbecue with my daughter, her
family, and friends.
I hope that you’ll be having fun with your loved ones on
this special holiday, which celebrates the birth of our nation.
On the Fourth of July, I’m reminded of how much I love
America and how much I think we can accomplish as a nation. However, I’m
continually disappointed lately that partisan divisions are standing in the way
of making progress.
So, today, as you have fun on your day off, try some of
these patriotic ideas: read the Declaration of Independence, buy a book on
American history, read about voting rights, watch a patriotic movie, sing
patriotic songs on your porch, buy a July Fourth cake and sing happy birthday America, or put up lots of red-white-and-blue decorations
in your house and yard.
And remember Safety First as you and your family swim, boat,
bicycle, ride ATVs, drive, and picnic.
