Best of Boomer Blogs celebrates 500th report

Laura-and-rasta-on-insulation-2014-2Ten years ago, Laura Lee Carter decided to become a writer. At 50, she wanted to try something new. She’s created a number of blogs, and her first one was called the Midlife Crisis Queen. It examined the trials and tribulations of stumbling into midlife.

Now, her blog is called the Adventures of the New Old Farts, where she reports on creating a solar home in Southern Colorado and what it’s like living in a rural area after years of being a city dweller.

But for the 10 years she’s been a writer, Carter has always participated in the Best of Boomer Blogs, a weekly roundup of news from a group of baby boomer bloggers. Although boomer bloggers have come and gone in the group throughout the years, Carter has keep active in it because she loves interacting with other bloggers, seeing what they’re thinking about, and reading their posts.

The blogger’s submissions this week include information on cell phone etiquette; problems boomers often encounter when using computers, iPhones, and other electronic gadgets; how to stay on the Whole 30 diet when you’re in France; and what you can learn from being a tourist in Washington, D.C.

Looking back on her 10 year writing career, and taking part in the Best of Boomer Blogs, Carter said she’s astonished at how much her writing and her life have changed since her simple beginnings as a writer back in 2006. Lesson #1: Write for the love of it.
