Last week, on Martha Stewart Living, Stewart explained what acupuncture is and she received a treatment.

She said acupuncture helps the body heal itself. With acupuncture, fine, sterile needles are inserted into specific acupuncture sites along pathways or meridians to balance qi or energy so that internal balance is re-established.
Acupuncture is used to treat head, back, shoulder, and neck pain; anxiety; stress; and gastrointestinal disorders. Acupuncture can also help people to quit smoking, lose weight, and sleep better.
Stewart explained that very thin acupuncture needles go about 1/4 inch into the skin. There’s nothing on the needles and no bleeding occurs. Treatments last 15 to 30 minutes.
How does acupuncture work? There’re many theories. Some research suggests that acupuncture stimulates the production of immune-system cells and pain-killing endorphins, an article, “Acupuncture Treatment,” on Stewart’s Web site, states. Other studies suggest that it alters the release pattern of brain chemicals and hormones.
Baby boomers are getting older, and effective pain treatment is becoming more important to them. Boomers also need just as much sleep as younger adults, but it's often harder for them to get the sleep they need. In addition, boomers who have smoked most or all of their adult lives are at high risk for cancer, lung disorders, and other diseases.
Consider acupuncture if you’re looking for a noninvasive way to deal with these issues.

Totally! I’ve been using acupuncture for years. The first time I ever had a treatment, I had suffered with chronic pain for years. One treatment and it was gone forever! I love acupuncture and recommend it to everyone.
Hi Rhea,
