How to find great deals on Father’s Day gifts

Grilling BarbecueIt can be tough to find just the right gift for dad.

DealNews offers suggestions for finding deals in categories that often appeal to dads. They include:

Tools: Look for items under $10 and save up to 70%

Last year DealNews saw deals on hand tool sets, with some markdowns as high as 70 percent off. Many tools also were available for $10 or less individually, so you could put together a package of a shovel, wrench, flashlight, and pruner for under $40. Sears, Home Depot, True Value, Amazon, and Ace Hardware all had good sales last year.

Electronics: Check for bundle deals

Deals can range from speakers and headphones to phones and TVs. Bundles that include store gift cards can offer savings, so be sure to check out sellers such as Dell and Newegg – which often include credits in their offerings.

Grills: Look for deals up to 50% off

June is the biggest month of the barbecuing season when it comes to the number of grill deals. DealNews saw deals that slashed up to 50 percent off around this time last year. (But, be aware, the lowest prices come later in the season.) Accessories, such as grill pans and recipe books will also be on sale before Father’s Day.

Sporting goods: Check for bargains on camping and exercise equipment

Camping equipment, athletic shoes, and exercise equipment were some of the most frequently discounted items last year, making them good Father’s Day gifts look out. Whether dad likes playing outdoors, getting fit in the comfort of his air conditioned home, or looking at a giant photo of his favorite quarterback on his office wall, you should be able to get a deal on something he’ll appreciate.

Clothing: Pick out a tie or a clothing item

Last year, DealNews saw all-time low prices on shoes, jackets, sunglasses, and pants, as well as strong general sales from merchants such as adidas, Puma, Macy’s, Allen Edmonds, Express, and American Eagle. Year-round items, such as activewear, and non-summery offerings, such as dress pants, saw discounts as high as 92 percent off.
