How Consumer Reports evaluates kitchen appliances
Brand ratings identify manufacturers that consistently perform well in Consumer Reports’ lab tests and member reliability surveys.
Model ratings offer an in-depth look at individual appliances, helping shoppers compare performance, features, and value when they want to narrow down to a specific model. Consumer Reports buys and tests kitchen appliances purchased online and in stores. The testing is independent. Consumer Reports doesn’t accept advertising or free product samples from manufacturers. They use secret shoppers to buy items rated. Consumer Reports’ currently has test results for 700 kitchen appliances, including 50 wall ovens, 75 cooktops, 130 dishwashers, 190 ranges, and nearly 300 refrigerators.
Reliability scores are based on surveys of thousands of Consumer Reports’ members to show how brands and models hold up over the years in people’s homes.
