Today is World Press Freedom Day

World Press Freedom Day

I’m a journalist, and I take the title very seriously. In my work, my goals are, to be honest, accurate, and timely.

At no time in the history of our nation has the work of the press been more important. President Donald Trump is a dishonest man, and he vilifies the press because he knows they’re reporting on his misdeeds.

In 466 days, Trump had made 3,001 false or misleading claims, according to a Washington Post article. This is unprecedented in the history of the United States.

I applaud the press and its work to keep our democracy strong. I don’t know how the Trump saga is going to end, but whatever the outcome, the press needs to continue to report in-depth on his actions and the investigations underway.

The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression.
