On Monday, I wrote about what I’d like Airbnb hosts to do.
Here’s a list of what Airbnb hosts would like guests to do. It’s based on the most frequent responses from about a dozen articles.
- Communicate about what you need preferably using the Airbnb App. Respond to messages from your host.
- Read the entire listing before signing up.
- Tell your host about any concerns when you arrive so problems can be fixed promptly.
- Make sure you have all the specific instructions about how to get into the place and follow the instructions on parking.
- Send a message with your arrival time.
- Be polite. Don’t yell at your host even if something upsetting has happened.
- Read all of the house manual and follow the instructions.
- Don’t use blankets from the Airbnb to sit on the ground at the park or beach.
- Don’t have large, noisy parties. Follow the requirements about guests.
- Don’t smoke in the residence.
- Don’t arrive early or checkout late without permission.
- Report any broken items or damages.
- Leave the space tidy. Do the dishes, clean the kitchen, and clean up any mess. Empty the refrigerator.
- Empty the trash and put items in recycling according to directions before you leave.
- Turn off the lights when you leave and when they’re not in use.
- Turn down the heat or air conditioning when checking out.
- Leave a positive, honest review since any problems should have been worked out during your stay.
I hope you’re able to find good Airbnb listings. Most of the ones I’ve stayed in have been fine. See my article “Top 10 Things I wish Airbnb Hosts Would Do” for my suggestions for areas where improvements could be made.
