‘The Bachelor’ is a brutal way to date

Red Rose“The Bachelor” is a TV program that has never appealed to me. I don’t watch it. However, as I was changing the channels Monday, I just happened on what was supposed to be the finale of season 22’s program as Arie was proposing to Becca.

“That was nice,” I thought. I got to see the proposal and didn’t have to sit through a whole season of terrible embarrassment and heartbreak.

Twenty-nine women started out season 22 vying for Arie’s hand. It’s a very emotionally unhealthy way to date. The guy is handsome and you go out on dates. Then, you have to watch him date 28 other women and, toward the end of the program, have an overnight date in the Fantasy Suite which usually involves sex. Of course, you fall in love with him, but your chances of winning him are slim.

Arie loved Loren, but then he broke up with her because he said, at one point, he saw doubt in her eyes. Then he proposed to Becca. However, that wasn’t the end of it. After he proposed to Becca, he felt “conflicted,” so he called off the engagement. The breakup was shown live on television. Arie then reconnected with Lauren. She quickly took him back.

Arie picked out Lauren, the most beautiful blond on the program. Then, he broke up with her and chose Becca, the most beautiful brunette on the program.

After all this trauma, Becca was chosen to be the star of the upcoming “The Bachelorette.” They brought out four of the men to meet her. Two were black. She cooed when she saw them and called them cute.

The fourth man brought out a horse. He helped Becca sit side saddle on the horse, saying the idea was to get right back on after you fall.

I did watch the special two-hour program Tuesday when all the details were revealed, missing “The Voice” and “This Is Us.” But, I won’t be watching it anymore. It’s a brutal way to date.
