What can you do to cut gas consumption to offset rising prices?

Here's a list of tips from the Consumer Federation of America, as reported by consumeraffairs.com.

  • Slow down.
  • Check the oil filter.
  • Fix the alignment.
  • Get a tune up.
  • Pump up your tires.
  • Check the gas cap.
  • Reduce the weight in your car.
  • Drive more smoothly.
  • Don't ride the brakes.
  • Stop idling.

If consumers practice these tips, they'll save 13 percent on their gas bills, according to the federation.

It's also important to avoid getting hooked by gas gadget scams during these days of  high gas prices.

  3. Of all the political reactions to rising gas prices the least mentioned is “use less”. Instead we get proposals like a federal gas tax holiday or start drilling in the Alaska wildlife reserve.

  4. Hi Pete,
I agree we need to emphasis using less gas, and I think we need a significant reaction from the federal government on the issue, such as a windfall profits tax. The sooner the better.
