Memorial Day honors Americans who have died in service to their country. Ceremonies are held, and people visit cemeteries and decorate graves with flowers. Memorial Day also is seen as the beginning summer, and barbecues abound. Also, some people shop at Memorial Day sales for bargains.

Stop Food Waste Day is Wednesday

Food Tank, a think tank for food, and Compass Group are offering a virtual event to discuss food wastage on Stop Food Waste Day at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday. In the United States, up to 40 percent of the food that is produced every year is wasted. That’s an economic loss of $218 billion per year.

Facts and figures for Easter 2021

Easter is a time Americans celebrate the resurrection of Christ and spend a lot of money to mark the holiday. About 65 percent of Americans classify themselves as Christians, with 28 percent planning to attend an Easter service in person on Easter Sunday this year.

Happy April Fools’ Day

With more than 1,000 people dying a day from the coronavirus in the United States now, it’s difficult to think about making jokes. But, I got my first shot of the Moderna vaccine today, so that’s something. My daughter, who’s usually good at April Fools’ Day jokes, was having difficulty, so I sent her a list.
