The United States of America is celebrating its 246th birthday on the Fourth of July this year. The USA became a nation when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Although celebrations were subdued last year due to the covid-19 pandemic, more people can gather together this year.

We’re having a heat wave here in the Pacific Northwest. Monday it’s going to be 110 degrees, an all-time record. I wrote about how to avoid heat-related illness. I learned a couple of things: a fan won’t prevent heat-related illness while a cool shower will cool you down.

Best and worst states for summer road trips this year

Summer is a great time for a road trip. While travel was limited last year due to the covid-19 pandemic, many states are opening up now. This summer, more than two-thirds of Americans plan to take a vacation, and 59 percent say they are more likely to drive than fly.

Happy Father’s Day

Facts and figures for Father’s Day 2021

Although Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1914, Father’s Day didn’t become an official holiday until 1966. The idea for Father’s Day is attributed to Sonora Dodd, of Spokane, Washington, who was raised by her father after her mother’s death during childbirth.
