As cases of coronavirus spike and scores of people ignore the pandemic, boomer bloggers are venturing out into the new world we have now. It’s tough. You have to weigh the risks of going out and continually be on the lookout for people not wearing masks.
These days, I’m still not going out much. I pick up groceries from my local food coop weekly and order everything else. However, we’re having socially distance, outdoor events to celebrate the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote.
On Aug. 18, 1920, Tennessee legislators voted to ratify the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing votes for women. It was the largest granting of suffrage in U.S. history. Due to the pandemic, gatherings to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the event were canceled.
It’s been a wearisome week for some of our boomer bloggers. They’ve been hunkered down during Hurricane Isaias. As a result of the storm, some had their internet and cable conk out for up to four days.
One also had her computer malfunction, and it spent two days in the computer clinic. Fortunately, she didn’t have to get a new computer. Her Mac was returned in working order. Macs are good machines, in my experience.

In Washington state, the primary election is Tuesday. Last week, I voted on the ballot send to me in the mail, then I took it to the drop box about 10 blocks from my house. I’m a big fan of our state’s vote-by-mail system.
One of the big things that’s been canceled in my life due to the pandemic is all the celebrations that were being planned in my community to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women winning the vote in the United States. Events and parades have been canceled.
It’s week 18 of covid-19 restrictions for many of us. I dawned on me the second week in March that I should be staying home. I had been walking in the mall during the winter, but I thought heading there wouldn’t be wise. I’d ride my stationary bicycle for exercise instead.
The baby boomer bloggers in our group are located all over the United States so we’re dealing with the pandemic in different ways depending on where we live. In Washington state where I live, things have opened up somewhat, but cases are going up.
It’s strange. The weather’s been cloudy and rainy here in the Seattle area. Then, to celebrate July Fourth, I worked on my taxes instead of hosting a party with lots of red, white, and blue. Yes, with the 2020 pandemic, things are all mixed up.
