Two weeks ago, I went to my local co-op to stock up on food due to the possible need to stay home due to the COVID-19 outbreak. I bought two weeks’ worth of food.
Then, I heard that older people may need to stay home for more than two weeks. So I set out for Costco for a shopping trip. I spent $262. Costco was out of hydrogen peroxide, which I use to wipe chemicals off things. In addition, it was out of medium-size disposable gloves, so I bought two boxes of large.
I bought eggs, chicken thighs to freeze, carrots, beets, cheese, pine nuts, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and a large bag of “power” greens. Since I normally don’t buy Costco’s large sizes, I was looking around for something for dinner. I bought a large plastic container of shrimp. (Pretty exotic. I was able to eat it all and none spoiled.)
Next, I went to Walmart, next door to Costco, to buy a personal care item. There, I saw organic canned beans and corn. The shelves were getting empty of canned goods, but I bought a supply. They don’t have canned vegetables at the local co-op, and I didn’t see any at Costco.
On face masks, as I wrote earlier, I think people should wear them, especially in the Seattle area where the coronavirus is out in the community. Although I have a few masks on hand because I have respiratory problems, I haven’t seen any available locally. However, a friend said he ordered some from Amazon. So, on Saturday, I placed an order. I paid $112.54 for a box of 20. That’s $5.62 each plus $1.62 each for shipping and taxes. Definitely price gouging. I researched masks and this brand was much cheaper from other companies, but those companies were only selling the masks to their regular customers or they were out of stock.
I ordered from my co-op and have received a case of toilet paper and have ordered a case of paper towels.
