I’m the host for this week’s Best of Boomer Blogs #424.
Last week, I wrote some articles about Halloween. While my readers like my consumer articles, such as the one I wrote this week about the World Health Organization classifying ham, bacon, hot dogs, and other processed meats as cancer causing, they like the consumer articles I write about holiday topics even more.
I’m getting hundreds of hits on my Halloween articles, especially what to do with leftover Halloween candy. Click on this link if you need some tips so you don’t put on five extra pounds from eating it.
I just had four trick-or-treaters. Fortunately, I only bought one bag of candy. Then, I was wise when I went back to the store, thinking I might need more. You don’t like to run out. I bought two packages of boxes of raisins.
My daughter says raisins are a lame thing to give out on Halloween. However, it was a good backup choice. Now, I can eat raising instead of leftover candy.
By the way, I work hard every day to fight my “sweet tooth.” Diabetes runs in my family, so I try not to eat sweets. However, if it’s in the house, I’ll eat it.
My blogging buddies have much more serious topics on their minds.
Tom Sightings on Sightings Over Sixty reports on a new development on Social Security that came out of last week's federal budget agreement, as well as a modification of a proposed change to Medicare premiums.
Linda Myers of Thoughts From a Bag Lady In Waiting is excited about her decision to participate in the formation of a car camp for the homeless. Beginning Nov. 16, her church will be hosting five families in a car camp in the church parking lot.
Traveling is one of Meryl Baer of Six Decade and Counting’s passions. She just returned from an adventurous 10 days in Italy with three girlfriends, Florence and Venice their destinations. Visiting the usual tourist sites, they also saw interesting things along the way not often mentioned in the guide books. Check out this week’s post of pictures in Italy "Slightly Off the Tourist Track."
Laura Lee Carter of the Adventures of the New (and Improved) Old Farts is cooking up a delicious autumn stew and shares the recipe for you – Curried Yam and Mushroom Stew. Yum.
