On Saturday, I wrote about National Public Lands Day and how you can visit national parks that charge fees for no cost.
I reported on the national parks I’ve visited in Washington state and mentioned how much I loved the Grand Canyon.
I wanted to share my photos and report on what a great time I had visiting the American wonder in 1980. However, I can’t find the photos. In the California notebook, where we traveled first, the photos end in the redwoods.
We went to the Grand Canyon as part of a three-week trip to that also included visiting San Francisco, Disneyland, San Diego, Tijuana, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City.
It was a great trip. I remember getting out of the car and having our first sighting of the Grand Canyon. It was so amazing. I’m very appreciative we have a national park system that keeps such wonders in public ownership so they can be enjoyed by all.
When I find my photos of the Grand Canyon, I’ll add them here.
However, I do remember them. I was getting ready to take a class in photojournalism. I took black-and-white photos for most of the trip so I could practice developing them in our dark room, temporarily set up in the laundry room.
I thought when I saw the photos that it was disappointing that the Grand Canyon photos were black and white. However, now I’d just be happy to find them.
