Here are my best and worst consumer experiences this week:

My best: Four On Demand movies in 24 hours

With the Academy Awards approaching, I was behind in watching movies for the review of the nominees I was planning to write.

I’d watched all the nominated movies available from Redbox. So I decided to try On Demand movies through Comcast.

The first movie, “Food Inc.,” was terrific. I thought “The Hurt Locker” was mediocre, although it turned out to be a big winner. “A Serious Man” just keep getting more and more depressing. I didn’t finish watching “In the Loop” because the Academy Awards were starting, and I wanted to get my opinions posted before the Oscars were given out.

It was the first time I’d tried On Demand movies. The only problem I had was “In the Loop” wasn’t available when I went back to finish it. I guess I didn’t get to it within the two-day viewing period.

The worst: A ‘flyer’ from Confidential Landscaping

When I went out to my driveway, I found one of the worst door-to-door advertisements I’ve ever seen.

Confidential Landscaping put a rolled up, half sheet of bright pink paper in a tube of plastic. To weight it down so they could throw it out a car window, they put ROCKS inside the pink paper.

Confidential Landscaping said in the flyer that they’ll make your home beautiful with new lawns, sprinkler systems, and tree service. I don’t think so. I wouldn’t hire anyone who uses such an environmentally unfriendly ad.

To get rid of the ad, I had to dump the rocks out, throw away the plastic container, and recycle the pink paper. I wonder how many people took the time to deconstruct the mess. Many people probably just threw it in the garbage.

A week later, I still saw the ad littering the driveways in my neighborhood.
