Which consumer happenings cheered you this week and which ones made you want to scream or weep?
Here are my best and worst consumer experiences this week:
My best: Getting a rebate from Staples
A couple of months ago, a friend told me I could get a package of copy paper from Staples for 1 cent.
Since it was the last day and near closing time, I rushed to Staples. When I arrived, I found that I had to pay full price for the paper. When I sent in the rebate form or entered the information on the Staples website, I’d get a check for what I paid minus 1 cent.
This made me nervous. Sometimes I get busy and don’t follow through on rebates. The deadlines sneak up on you.
I went on vacation and when I got back, I rounded up the rebate information. Fortunately, the offer had a two-month time period to the deadline.
This week, I received a check for $9.96 as a rebate for two packages of copy paper.
My worst: Buying a bad salad from Safeway
I’m busy working on political campaigns. So, after several hours of doorbelling, I stopped at Safeway and bought a salad.
When I tried to eat it, the chicken and lettuce tasted old. I opened the small container of black beans. The odor was overwhelming.
I took it back the next day for a refund.
