Subaru is recalling about 593,000 vehicles because the windshield wiper motors can overheat and cause a fire. In 2011, some of the vehicles were recalled for a similar problem.

The recall involves some Legacy and Outback cars from the 2010 and 2014 model years.

Subaru said parts of the wiper motor cover could interfere with each other due to contamination. The wiper could overheat if ice or snow stops the wiper arms from stopping where it should.

The wiper motor bottom cover will be replaced by dealers without a charge.
