My sister has Parkinson’s disease, so my family knows how devastating it can be.
Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder that is chronic and progressive. It affects people throughout the world.
- Nearly 1 million Americans are living with Parkinson’s.
- About 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease each year, and this number doesn’t reflect thousands of cases that aren’t detected.
- Seven to 10 million people worldwide are estimated to be living with Parkinson’s disease.
- The incidence of Parkinson’s increases with age, but an estimated 4 percent of people with Parkinson’s are diagnosed before the age of 50.
The cause of Parkinson’s isn’t known, and there is no cure.
