It’s hard to believe, but August is almost here, and soon kids will be headed back to school.
To help parents save money, WalletHub, a personal-finance website, has released the results of its “2018 Back-to-School Shopping Survey” and “Sales-Tax Holiday Calendar” to help parents save hundreds.
Highlights of the reports include:
- High-income families are 3.7 times more likely to do their back-to-school shopping on Amazon.com than low-income families.
- Low-income parents tend to shop at Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, and Dollar General.
- More than 95 percent of high-income parents say they’ll spend at least as much as last year, versus just 71 percent of low-income parents.
- Three in four low-income parents think students should be paid for good grades.
- Eight in 10 low-income parents would pay extra to have an armed security guard at their kids’ school.
- Middle-income parents, 84 percent, are most willing to go into debt for their kids’ education.
- Sales tax holidays will be held in 16 states, starting as early as July 20, offering savings of up to 7 percent on popular back-to-school items.
