On International Labor Day, let’s celebrate the value and strength of the American worker

Labor Day HistoricIt’s incredible that such a huge attack on American workers is being launched by the Trump administration.

In his first 100 days, Trump has hurt American workers 100 ways, according to the Economic Policy Institute, a think tank focusing on worker and economic issues.

Among the 100 actions are:

  • Cutting workers’ wages and making working conditions worse.
  • Damaging economic growth and U.S. workers’ purchasing power.
  • Attempting illegal federal funding freezes.
  • Unleashing chaos and causing inefficiency in the public sector.

Like many people, I’m dazed, upset, and furious as the attacks on American workers and consumers go on and on, day after day.

International Labor Day is celebrated in many countries on May 1.

U.S. resistance to celebrate International Labor Day – also called International Workers’ Day –  stems from a resistance to emboldening global working-class unity, historians say.

However, let’s celebrate America workers – and express our outrage at the Trump administration – with parades, marches, rallies, and events.

It’s important to remember American workers for all their contributions and sacrifices and protest the Trump administration’s adopting unfair labor practices, reducing purchasing power, waging war on federal workers, slashing programs that help workers, and gutting consumer protections.
