With so much unknown about the coronavirus pandemic, I was opposed to the Olympics being held in Tokyo this year. However, once it began, I enjoyed watching the athletes perform.
I turned on the TV when I got up to see what was on and watched it through the day and in the evening – until the coverage started repeating.
Now that the Olympics is over, I still worry about it being super-spreader event. I cringed when the athletes hugged each other. Also, some coaches and team members weren’t good about keeping their masks on.
We’ll see what happens.
Other bloggers in our group also are worried about the coronavirus pandemic as cases surge – again – and we’ve learned vaccinated people can get covid, which is often mild.
Prolonging the pandemic
Reluctantly, Carol Cassara of Carol Cassara Writer has drawn a concerning picture on her blog of the opposition to covid vaccines and protective measures, such as masks, in her post, “How Clueless, Willful, Self-centered Americans Are Prolonging the Pandemic.”
Restrictions again
Deja vu. It’s happening again. We thought we put the pandemic behind us. We were naive. In many areas, including the home of Meryl Baer of Beach Boomer Bulletin, some restrictions have been reinstated. Baer is irritated, and she vents in this week’s post “Two Steps Forward and (at Least) One Step Back.”

An unexpected visitor
Mondays and garbage and bears … oh my. Just when Laurie Stone of Musings, Rants & Scribbles thought she’d seen it all, she looked out her window on a recent Monday to find a sight that stopped her heart. No, she didn’t spot a lion or tiger. Instead, a huge black bear stood there, rummaging through her garbage.
The peaceful past
In a world seemingly mad for the “self” in “selfishness,” Diane Tolley of On the Border decided to spend a little time bathed in kindness in the peaceful past. In a small family bakery in Ontario …
Hippies in Los Angeles
As Rebecca Olkowski with BabyBoomster.com heads off to her 50th high school reunion this weekend, she’s reminded of what it was like growing up in the 60s and 70s. Recently, she updated a popular post on her blog called “Hippie Hideaways in Los Angeles Are Alive, Well, and Still Groovy.” Enjoy it and keep on truckin’.

Rita, I share some of your concerns about Tokyo. I watched none of it this year. It just made me cringe to see all those people together, even those “few”. Same as when I read posts of people gathering in Florida.
I saw bits and pieces of the opening and closing ceremonies but had trouble finding it all together on our streaming channels. I usually watch more of it but not this time.
Let’s hope it’s not a super-spreader event. I feel so bad for the 20 or so athletes that got covid there and couldn’t compete.
Great post Rita. Cannot believe we once again worry about crowds, the unmasked, overcrowded ICUs, illness and death. When will it end…
Good question. I’d like to go to Madrid in May next year. I hope things are better then.
