I’ll be shopping at the January sales. It’s often possible to get a good deal on a warm, winter coat, which usually costs big bucks in the fall. It’s something I need to get me through the winter months in the chilly Seattle area weather.
In addition to winter clothing, on which you can save as much as 60 percent, Offers.com recommends looking for these bargains:
- Holiday décor – Retailers will cut prices on decorations by as much as 70 percent to clear out holiday inventory.
- Furniture – Stores are looking to make room for the new lines of furniture they’ll unveil in February. Expect sales of up to 70 percent off.
- Bicycles – Many people don’t like to ride bicycles in the winter weather. Stores that sell bikes looking to sell inventory will be cutting prices as much as 50 percent.
- Bedding and Linens – The tradition of the “White Sale” started by John Wanamaker in 1878 is still going strong. Discounts on bedding and linens will range from 20 percent to 60 percent.
Offers.com recommends waiting to buy these products:
- Mattresses – Mattresses will hit their lowest prices on federal holidays. There will be great prices during February for Presidents' Day sales and May for Memorial Day sales.
- Jewelry – Many people will buy jewelry in January to prepare for Valentine's Day. We recommend waiting for post-Valentine's Day sales to get the best jewelry discounts.
- Luggage – Travel is slow in March, so retailers mark down travel gear. Wait a couple months for the best prices.
- Small Appliances – Small appliances were at their lowest during holiday sales. But, there are also some great deals during spring wedding season. If it can wait, there will be better deals in a few months.
- Gym Memberships – It's unlikely to find a bargain on a gym membership in January. Fitness resolutions attract customers, which means the gym doesn't have to offer discounts to attract customers. The warm weather months are better for gym deals.
Offers.com also offers a Resolutions Saving Center for deals on items related to resolutions for those who can't wait to get started.
