Although my favorite movie, "The Post," didn't win any Academy Awards Sunday, at least the horror movie, "Get Out," nominated for best picture didn't win it.
"The Shape of Water," the science fiction movie about a scaled God from the Amazon finding love, won the best picture. It also won for the director, music score, and production design.
The only Academy Award "Get Out" won was for original screenplay.
I liked "Dunkirk" and chose it for six awards. However, it won just three: film editing, sound editing, and sound mixing. I picked it for all three.
I also chose "Darkest Hour," about Winston Churchill, for the best actor and makeup and hairstyling. The movie won both, with Gary Oldman as Churchill doing a fantastic job in the role.
Movies I didn't especially care for also were winners: "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" for best actress and best-supporting actor; "Call Me by Your Name" for the adapted screenplay; and "Coco" for an animated feature.
I also picked the winner for the documentary short, "Heaven Is a Traffic Jam on the 405"; best song, "Remember Me" from "Coco"; and visual effects, "Blade Runner 2049."
I watched 29 movies to do my analysis. I wrote that many of the movies are too violent. That's why I write about the Academy Awards every year, to point out how terrible these violent movies are for kids.
Next year, I think I'll just watch the trailers.
