Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. is recalling about 51,000 2011 Tundra trucks to inspect the rear drive shaft.
The rear drive shaft in a few of the vehicles may include a component, a slip yoke, which could break due to improper casting. Toyota received a report of one drive shaft slip yoke that failed, with no accidents or injuries associated with it.
Owners of Tundra trucks will receive a letter telling them about the recall starting this month. Toyota will also post the information on its website.
Toyota dealers will inspect the trucks to identify a specific "production lot" number located on the rear drive shaft. They’ll determine if the rear drive shaft needs to be replaced. The inspection will take about 10 minutes. If the rear drive shaft needs to be replaced, the repair will take more time. Vehicle owners won’t have to pay for the inspection or replacement.
