
Did you know when you drink a 20-ounce soft drink, you are drinking the equivalent of 16 packets of sugar?
To help educate the public about the how Americans are eating too many “empty calories,” the New York City Department of Health produced the video above that shows a man enjoying downing 16 sugar packets.
It’s a good reminder about the nutritional choices that we make every day.
Another New York City video, “Man Drinking Fat. NYC Health Anti-Soda Ad. Are You Pouring on the Pounds?”, shows a man taking gulps from a glass of fat. It says drinking a can of soda of day can make you 10 pounds fatter a year. Instead, the department recommends drinking water, seltzer, low-fat milk, or unsweetened tea.
New York City is making headlines with its proposal to ban the city’s 1.7 million food stamp recipients from buying soda and other sugared drinks. A request has been made to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
