Happy 250th birthday, America, a country, still, with great potential

I love red, white, and blue and our country’s flag with its stars and stripes. And, I’m a progressive who supports government, and I encourage people to be involved to help governments at all levels work as well as possible. I even ran for public office once.

The Trump years are very difficult for me as they are for the nation. There’s so much destruction of governmental processes as well as discrimination and hate.

For example, Brooke Rollins, secretary of the U.S. Department Agriculture, sent out a news release this week on the “lawfare partnership with the SBA [Small Business Administration] to shield producers, ranchers, and small businesses from weaponized regulations.”

“The radical environmentalism agenda has done its share of damage to America’s farmers, and Secretary Rollins is leading the fight to end environmental lawfare,” the announcement said.

As people who follow governmental issues know, laws and regulations are often weak because millions of lobbyists, funded by billions of dollars, work night and day to weaken any governmental action that would affect them.

To say that radical environmentalists have had any successes in developing the laws of this country is ridiculous.

Much of what the Trump administration has done and is doing is ridiculous but in addition is harmful. For example, the decisions and actions that: say Roundup isn’t harmful, reduce coal plant emissions that will result in more injuries and deaths, allow fruit-flavored e-cigarettes which appeal to kids to be sold, cut health coverage and SNAP benefits, reduce disaster relief and housing assistance, and much more.

So, my view is that the Trump administration is a temporary setback. Our great country has overcome adversity before, and we’ll do it again.

So happy Semiquincentennial, America. We were a remarkable country and we will be again.
