Eighty percent of consumers plan to celebrate Easter this year and will spend an average $169.79, according to the National Retail Federation.

Total spending for the holiday is estimated to be $20.8 billion, down slightly from last year's forecast of $21.6 billion.

With 51 percent of consumers planning in-person celebrations, up from 43 percent from last year, food will be the largest spending category. Among those planning to celebrate Easter, the average spending is estimated to be $53.61 on food, followed by $28.04 on gifts and $27.93 on clothing.

WalletHub also surveyed Americans to find out their attitudes on the Easter holiday this year, including their thoughts on charitable giving, spending, religion, and safety in the wake of the covid pandemic.

  1. Yes, it does. Easter certainly is a time when consumers are spending. I hope the gatherings will be safe this year and aren’t covid spreading events.

  2. We celebrated Passover on Friday and then I went to my daughter’s for Easter. All I bought was some wine and some Easter candy for my daughter. It was a pretty cheap weekend but no grandkids as of yet to go overboard on.

  3. Yes, I stayed home, so my Easter spending was zero. If my grandchildren were nearby, they definitely would have gotten an Easter basket, even though they’re teens now.

  4. We traveled 2-hours to spend time with our Orlando family. My son lives in Seattle and doesn’t have any children of his own so the children we spend our money and time on, live in Orlando. It was wonderful to see them again.
