It’s the 101st anniversary of women in the United States being guaranteed the right to vote. The 72-year-long political movement was carried out by tens of thousands of women and men working for equal rights for women. The women were called suffragists, meaning the right to vote in political elections.

Juneteenth is now a holiday

President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act on Thursday. It establishes a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth, a combination of June and nineteen, is already a holiday in seven states.

It’s my birthday.
It was fun to be able to celebrate my birthday at an outside birthday party with a few fully vaccinated friends. It was sad not to be able to travel to Madrid or Sacramento and be with my daughters for my birthday. However, I am happy to be alive and not dead from covid-19.

Food Tank, a think tank for food, and Compass Group are offering a virtual event to discuss food wastage on Stop Food Waste Day at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday. In the United States, up to 40 percent of the food that is produced every year is wasted. That’s an economic loss of $218 billion per year.
