As for shopping, 36 percent of Americans plan to shop at sales and spend an average of $289, a survey from Retailmenot, a coupon website, shows. Topping the list for possible bargains are appliances, mattress, and spring clothing.

If you’re having a barbecue, here are food safety tips. Remember to throw away perishable food after it’s been sitting out for two hours without refrigeration. When it’s 90 degrees, it’s one hour.

I’ll be finishing planting my garden today. I got about half of it done yesterday, a blustery afternoon. I had to bundle up in my fall gardening clothes.
This evening, I think I’ll work on my family photos. It will be a good way to remember my ancestors, including my uncles who served during World War II.
