Best places to travel for Labor Day 2024

Gasworks Park Space Needle Seattle ScenicIn recent years, I haven’t traveled much on Labor Day.

About 21 percent of Americans plan to travel over the Labor Day weekend by car or plane, according to WalletHub, a personal finance website. It’s estimate there will be 51,900 serious injuries during the Labor Day weekend crashes and more than 450 traffic fatalities.

No wonder I’m staying home.

I review about two dozen websites and tallied up the most popular destinations most often mentioned that people are traveling to for Labor Day 2024. The results are:

  1. Orlando
  2. Seattle
  3. Chicago
  4. New York
  5. Las Vegas
  6. Denver
  7. Miami
  8. Boston
  9. Washington, D.C.
  10. Anchorage
  11. Juneau
  12. San Francisco

Other places beside Seattle in Washington state, where I live, that were mentioned a few times on the websites are Olympia, Lake Chelan, the San Juan Islands, Spokane, Bainbridge Island, and the Olympic National Forest.

By contrast, here’s a list of the most popular Labor Day destinations by WalletHub, a personal finance website:

  1. Seattle
  2. Orlando
  3. Anchorage
  4. New York
  5. Boston

And AAA’s list:

  1. Seattle
  2. Orlando
  3. Anchorage
  4. New York
  5. Boston
  6. Las Vegas
  7. Denver
  8. Chicago
  9. Juneau
  10. San Francisco

My list is to similar to AAA’s so a lot of websites are thinking along the same lines about Labor Day travel destinations.

If you’re traveling over the Labor Day weekend, enjoy, whether it's to one of these top destinations or somewhere else.

If you’re having a driving vacation, think safety at all times.
