I’m the host for this week’s Best of Boomer Blogs #441.
Last week was National Consumer Protection Week, a big deal for me as a consumer journalist.
On my blog, I wrote an article listing a wide variety of resources for consumers, so they could use the week to review their financial life and learn to recognize, guard against, and report scams and fraud.
I also wrote about the past, “What’s Happening Five Years After Fukushamia?” and the future, organizations that are leaders in curbing climate change.
A “blast from the past” brought gales of laughter at a dinner gathering at Tom Sightings’ home recently. A twenty-something dinner guest exploded in laughter when one of the boomers used the term “tootle,” as in tootle on down to the library. Go to Tom’s blog, Sightings Over Sixty, and read about tootle and other “old fogey” words in “Tootle on Down.”
The past also is on Carol Cassara mind. A new member of our group, Cassara blogs at Heart•Mind•Soul. She tells us Facebook has become a town square, the place people go for travel recommendations, for inspiration, and to talk about current events. It's where people "stalk" their high school first loves, watch cute cat videos, and extend birthday wishes. But amidst all this, one morning, a big surprise from the past awaited her. Laura Lee Carter of the Adventures of the New Old Farts is feeling rather stymied by one person who chastised her for telling others about where she recently moved. Yes, it's full of natural beauty, but it’s also quite poverty-stricken. In response Carter wrote this post: “What’s Not to Like About Living in Walensburg and Rural Southern Colorado.”
Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting, along with her hub, continues her cross-country travels. This week Baer spent time in the picturesque town of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and writes about her interlude in “Baths, Massage, and a Facial, Oh My!” She also wrote about two special women in her life in honor of International Women’s Day. You can read about these remarkable octogenarians in “90+ and Counting.”
